چکیده

CTANOL dehydrogenase (ODH) was studied in Drosophila melanogaster first by URSPRUNG and LEONE (1965) and distinguished from alcohol dehydrogenase by COURTRIGHT, IMBERSKI, and URSPRUNG (1966). The neotropical species Drosophila metzii is polymorphic for complex octanol dehydrogenase patterns which will be shown to depend on two distinct structural genes, ODH,, apparently homologous with the locus studied by COURTRIGHT et al. (1966), and ODH,, responsible for a more slowly migrating isozyme. The ODH loci are unlinked, and variants display unifactorial inheritance. The ODH molecule is considered at least a dimer but probably a tetramer. Isozyme formation can involve combinations of polypeptides produced by either or both of the two structural genes. Genetic evidence will be presented indicating that egg or embryonic and imaginal ODH isozyme patterns depend on the same structural genes.

The genetic control of alcohol dehydrogenase and octanol dehydrogenase isozymes in Drosophila.

HE detection, by agar gel electrophoresis, of as many as ten alcohol dehydrogenase isozymes in Drosophila melanogaster (URSPRUNG and LEONE 1965) presents a problem in the interpretation of genetic and epigenetic control of synthesis and function of multiple forms of enzymes. The observation that the three slowest cathodalIy migrating isozymes show a more intensive formazan staining when primary...

Further evidence for selective differences between isoalleles in Drosophila.

A number of separate strains of Drosophila pseudoobscura were inbred for 38 generations of brother-sister mating with forced heterozygosity for two alleles of either the octanol dehydrogenase or esterase-5 locus. Crosses were set up within each of these inbred lines such that simple mendelian ratios were expected, and eggs from these crosses were placed on media with additions simple chemicals ...

The genetic structure of natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster XIII. Further studies on linkage disequilibrium.

The Raleigh, North Carolina, population of Drosophila melanogaster was examined for linkage disequilibrium in 1974, several years after previous analyses in 1968, 1969, and 1970. alphaglycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase-1 (alphaGpdh-1), malate dehydrogenase-1 (Mdh-1), alcohol dehydrogenase (Adh), and hexokinase-C (Hex-C, tentative name, F. How genetic background masks single-gene heterosis in Drosophila (polymorphism-selection-isoenzymes-inbreeding-fly).

Conditional heterosis associated with two isoallelic forms of octanol dehydrogenase in Drosophila pseudoobscura has been detected in flies that have been (a) inbred for several generations to make the background genotype as homozygous as practicable, and (b) grown on a medium containing a small amount of octanol. The heterosis was first found in inbred males. The possibility that the effect in ...

Genetics of screwworm: new genetic markers and preliminary linkage map.

Eight new genetic markers for Cochliomyia hominivorax (Diptera: Calliphoridae), the screwworm, are characterized. The markers include three eye mutants, lemon-eye (le), cherry-eye (ch), and red-eye (re); one wing mutant, curly-wing (cw); and four allozyme markers, amylase (Amy-1), glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (Gpd), phosphoglucomutase (Pgm), and octanol dehydrogenase (Odh). The markers ar...
